The Rise of the 4-Day Week: Enhancing Work-Life Balance for Increased Productivity

In recent years, the concept of a 4-day week has gained traction among forward-thinking companies and progressive societies. This trend has emerged as a response to the growing need for work-life balance and the recognition that employee well-being directly impacts productivity. Many companies that have adopted a 4-day week have in fact witnessed productivity levels rise by up to 20-40% (Gitnux, 2023). Drawing upon similar findings, it is evident that the implementation of a shorter week can yield significant benefits for both employees and the overall success of a company.

As part of our commitment to fostering a healthy work-life balance, we have piloted 4-day week last year. Prior to implementing a 4-day week last year, we had already introduced half-days on Fridays and a self-determined monthly afternoon off to our dedicated team. These initial changes were met with positive feedback, as employees appreciated the opportunity to enjoy more leisure time and rejuvenate themselves.

The primary goal of last year’s 4-day week was twofold: to enhance productivity during working hours and provide sufficient time for our team members to recuperate with the breathtaking summer in Cyprus or embark on short vacations abroad. The results surpassed our expectations. Despite working one day less each week, our ability to deliver exceptional service remained unaffected.

Keen on analyzing the lessons learned from this trial period of the 4-day week in 2023, we organized an internal workshop to gather feedback and insights by our valued employees. This introspection helped identify areas for improvement in the domains of a work-life balance and an opportunity to explore ideas to further bolster productivity. Due to the overwhelmingly positive response, we have decided to expand this initiative even further this year. Building upon the success of the previous trial, we are extending the 4-day week from one month to two months.

During the period of July and August, we will therefore not be operating on Fridays, affording our employees an extended weekend and more time to recharge their batteries. However, to ensure that our clients’ needs are met promptly, even in emergency situations, we have devised a system of standby staff on a rotational basis for the usual working hours on Fridays. This proactive approach guarantees that any urgent customer support request will be addressed.

With confidence, we anticipate a win-win-win situation for all stakeholders involved once again. PHILOSHOPERS will get to enjoy more leisure time and engage in activities that nurture their well-being. The company stands to gain from heightened productivity levels, and a motivated workforce. Finally, our esteemed customers will benefit from having dedicated partners who are laser-focused on their success, delivering exceptional service with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

PHILOSHOPERS now present on Instagram!

With over 1.3 billion users, Instagram has undeniably become massively popular, especially among younger generations. For many, it has become a way of life, involving capturing, editing, and sharing creative pictures and short videos with text captions. Engaging with friends, family, co-workers, and groups through Instagram turns into a daily habit. Numerous brands and large companies use Instagram as well, either as an effective marketing tool or a platform to connect and engage with their audience.

While the company maintains pages on the web, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, our young and dynamic team of PHILOSHOPERS came up with the idea to expand our digital presence on Instagram in a different, more casual manner – the launch of an instagram page under the company brand, managed by the team, for the team! Some of our team members are already enthusiastic Instagram users or content creators through their personal pages, so a staff-driven page brings am extra element of fun to our workplace.

The content on this page will be exclusively created by volunteer PHILOSHOPERS, revolving around moments from our team’s life at work. The objective is to capture moments in a more creative and engaging way than simply taking pictures, not only to serve as our memories of our life at work but to also engage with remote co-workers from the team, customers and business partners or even give a glimpse of how it feels to work at PHILOSHOPIC for new hires or applicants aiming to join the team.

Today, the PHILOSHOPIC Instagram page goes live! Not as a company managed page but as a page managed directly by team members. The content will not be monitored by the company, though all content creators have committed to obtaining the consent of anyone featured in pictures or videos as well as protect any company or customer confidential information.

Please feel free to follow our new PHILOSHOPIC Instagram page, engage and interact with our team and share your thoughts! Hopefully whilst busy delivering great solutions to our customers, the team shall post regularly what goes on behind-the-scenes at PHILOSHOPIC. Stay tuned!

KickOff Event 2023

Every year at PHILOSHOPIC we have a Kick-off event to reflect on last years performance, celebrate accomplishments and align the team around the objectives and targets for the year. This year, the company organised a 2-day trip to Kalopanayiotis on the 25-26 February, with various events planned, including seminars, brainstorm sessions, board game challenges, lovely food, nature walks, fun in the snowy Troodos mountains, and quality time together as a team including our partners in life. The process started with pre-kick off sessions in our office the week before and some post-event activities the following 2 weeks.

The 2023 Kick-Off event was a great opportunity to come together, reinforce the company’s culture and team spirit, and develop momentum to achieve the goals set for 2023. Every PHILOSHOPER had the opportunity to contribute to sessions around improving our processes as well as to learn on our solutions roadmaps, the key wins we had in the previous years and the main areas we shall focus in 2023. For the first time, we all had the opportunity to be accompanied by our partners in life and kids, realizing the vast diversity of our extended work-family in terms of nationalities!

After 2 days filled with work and fun related activities each PHILOSHOPER remains committed to serve our customers, expand our portfolio and be more productive and fun while at work. A post-event survey will provide guidance on what to keep and what to improve in future kick-off events where we expect to have new PHILOSHOPERS joining and more customer successes to share! The entire team is grateful for what we have achieved together in 2022 and excited for 2023 and what it can bring to our team, our customers and each PHILOSHOPER’s professional development!
